Job Description- The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care to individuals under the direction of the Program Manager. These include personal care and other related services and tasks needed to support individuals in their home and in the community. The DSP team members assist in providing a safe and clean environment and works cooperatively with each individual and other team members. Observations are shared with others who are also committed to enriching the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities May Include but Not Limited to:

  • Administering medications under the supervision of a RN, taking temperatures, pulses, and blood pressures
  • Assisting with bathing or showering
  • Assisting with personal hygiene
  • Assisting individuals with dressing themselves
  • Assisting the individual with meal preparation
  • Assisting the individual with maintaining a clean, safe, home
  • Providing transportation to medical and other personal appointments
  • Assisting by using safety equipment such as: hoyer lift, wheelchair, and gait belt when transferring individuals

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Skills: Must be able to read, write and follow written and verbal instructions effectively. Demonstrate interest in providing care and companionship for individuals with developmental disabilities in their homes. Must successfully complete agency orientation training
  • Health Status: Meets all applicable agency policies and procedures related to health screening and required drug testing

Must Possess and Maintain:

  • License: Valid Ohio driver’s license with less than 6 points
  • Transportation: Reliable transportation and valid automobile insurance coverage (you must be listed on the Declaration)
